Sullivan Whitfield is an accomplished graphic artist with, literally, a magic drawing board. The characters of his graphic novel, On Fire, have come to life. One, Melissa, even lives in the neighboring apartment and works at the pet store and dates; yet she is the main female character in his story line. Others, like the football star Crazy Joe, a bisexual, offer to relieve Sullivan's needs, but he demurs, finding that a little too far-fetched. Sullivan is bi himself, and was abandoned by his lover exactly forty-two days ago, a period in which his art continued but his love life and housekeeping fell off.

Melissa introduces him to bi British librarian Jonathan, a gentle hunk in his own right, who is immediately taken with Sullivan. But in the background, potential for a menage is developing, as both men fancy Melissa, even though only Sullivan knows she is first and foremost a comic character. What Sullivan doesn't know is that Melissa only has eyes for him, but intends to sacrifice that dream as she is not truly "real."

All It Takes is a lively piece with the trademark wit and wisdom of accomplished author Willa Okati, who delivers male/male sensuality and romance truly like nobody else. Always her characters are explored in depth, and Sullivan, Melissa, and Jonathan are no exceptions to this rule. Even the secondary characters are finely-delineated. The plot is lush and the romance is endearing, appealing, and very realistic. The m/m intimacy, and m/f sensuality, are explicit, yet tastefully written. All It Takes qualifies as another in the long list of fine stories from the incomparable Willa Okati.
