| Major Drew Lawson returned home to Wayback, Texas after eighteen years. Once he left and joined the Army, he came back for nothing—until now. His Dad and sister were dead and his step-mother had moved out. The Oak Valley Ranch was his. His Dad had sold 20% to Mike Vasquez, the ranch foreman, and lifelong friend of Drew.
Annie Zykor, at 34, was thrilled to see Drew walk into her family’s Cranky Hank’s Bar-b-que. She loved him eighteen years ago and she loved him still. She still knew him well enough to see the sadness evident in his eyes when he realized the townsfolk treated him like a hero. He knew they would not be so accepting if they knew what he did in the Army. Ms. Cindy Spencer Pape has become a favorite of mine. I like her style of writing and the way she incorporates an abundance of emotion. Her characters are fabulously written. The secrets that Drew felt he was hiding changed the way his character faced his hometown. Annie’s personality blossomed with her care-taker way of looking at life. There was a myriad of characters in this book. They all fit together as if a puzzle but there were no problems understanding where they all fit. Many times when a large cast is used, the storyline gets bogged down. Not so with Ms. Pape. Her sensual scenes are highly emotional and the sex is super-hot. You will love this book as did I.
