| Frankie Smith just watched her boyfriend walk out the door. Now all she has left is her diner. Things couldn’t get any worse until they find a dead body behind her diner. Now it seems that Frankie is a chief suspect in the murder case and with no alibi, one of the people at the top of the list. Why did someone kill such a nice person and why did they do it behind her diner? There is a killer on the loose and the question is will he strike again? Can hardened cop Jack West help to clear her name? Every small town has its skeletons rattling in the closet, but when this one comes out, it will shake the very foundations on which it stands.
When all was said and done, I just couldn’t get into this story. I love stories with one man, one-woman type matches and I can even go for a ménage as long as the three in it are committed to each other. If you are like me then you may want to give this book a pass, but on the other hand if you love erotic stories that is more about the sex than the relationship then you may like this book. Frankie is in your face and doesn’t make excuses for her sex life, she is a strong willed heroine who does what she wants and is honest with it. However, it’s this behavior that puts me off of her character. She stays with a man for five years who repeatedly cheats on her, so she must really care about him to put up with it. But when he leaves her, she proceeds to sleep with anything in pants, including a drifter that she meets at her diner. I had a hard time believing that she was really hurting over the break up since she immediately jumped into bed with someone else. I had hoped this would be the type story where the heroine gets dumped, but realize it’s for the best then gradually gets involved with the hero. Basically this is just Frankie’s sexual escapades and how they relate to the plot. I am a huge fan of Emma Holly and have read almost all of her books, there are some I love, some I like and then some I don’t like. This is one that goes in the latter pile because I just couldn’t bring myself to really care for the heroine.
