Candace Steele is focused on the room she is renovating in a Mason Creek inn. The attraction she feels for the man helping her build the furniture is an unwanted distraction, especially since she's sworn off men. Marc Collins isn't quite the man Candace thinks he is. Her father hired him to keep on eye on her because of the threats he's received. But his eyes aren't the only things Marc wants on Candace.

From the very beginning, the intense attraction between Marc and Candace is evident, as is the fact that they are both fighting against it for different reasons. Candace has reason to be wary of unknown men, but there is just something about Marc that draws her to him. Marc struggles with his desire for Candace knowing that he shouldn't be getting involved with her when he can't really tell her the truth about who he is. Their internal battles make it that much sweeter when they finally succumb to their mutual attraction.

The scenes between them are both hot and sweet. Their sexual chemistry burns up the pages. But it is really the tenderness between them that makes everything feel right and not forced when it comes to their relationship. It is obvious that there is more than just sex between them, which is necessary for them to overcome Marc?s deception, and that is what makes this such a pleasurable, though short, read.
