| Pamela Clarkdale, oldest daughter of Maurice Clarkdale, had to get away from everybody and everything so she rode her horse, Midas, toward the stream. She saw a man laying there unconscious with a bullet hole in his shoulder. Luckily, she had told the groomsmen if she was not back within an hour to come looking for her. When he regained consciousness she took him to the stable because her father did not allow anybody to visit expecting food, clothing, or anything else. When the man told her his name was Kitt, he did not elaborate and state the whole truth--that he was Christopher Orion Covington, Earl of Kittridge. She managed to keep him hidden for a few weeks until he was able to travel back to London.
Before he left, Pamela younger, spoiled brat of a sister, told her father that she had seen Pamela kissing a stable hand. He had never treated her as a daughter, but more of a slave or household servant. With Sheila’s latest escapade, her father threw her out with only the clothes on her back. She managed to get a job as a companion to an older woman, Lady Parkington, who happened to be Kitt’s godmother! Agreeing to become betrothed to Kitt for the season was just the tip of the iceberg as far as acceptance by the ton was concerned. When Almack’s refused to allow her vouchers so that she and Lady Parkington would be permitted to attend functions at this superbly-acceptable place for the ton, the situation just continued to worsen! Through the introduction of a myriad of cast members and an unknown past and future, Pamela had to face so many heart-stopping complications; in the meantime, Kitt was forced to focus on the unknown traits of both his deceased parents. From Pamela’s non-communicable grandparents, to her sister, Sheila, to the members of the ton, she learned the importance of family and friends who would stand beside her through any trials. Ms. Denise Patrick has written a great novel which is not only a poignant look at extended family but also the importance of true love. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves historical; you will definitely not be disappointed!
