| Chance is a high class courtesan that loves her job and isn’t afraid to let people know it. Her other trade happens to be an assassin of high rank, but she doesn’t think that it has to put a dampener the first one. Chance has a very powerful father that she resents, and because of that she will do anything to avoid becoming just like him, even if it means denying part of herself. Her life is a little odd sometimes, but she loves it, at least until she meets a man she calls Dark after an accident that nearly kills her. After that, chaos erupts as she finds her life turned upside down.
Told in the first person, Almost Human has plenty of snappy dialog and great sex scenes that got me hooked from the first page. I couldn’t wait to turn the page to find out what happens next! Chance is a great character; she loves sex and makes no bones about it. No shyness here! I love a strong female lead, and Chance has all the qualities she needs to be a great one. She’s entirely capable of taking care of herself, and doesn’t automatically fall back on relying on Dark when trouble occurs. Dark is an alpha male who leaps off the page and came to life as I read the story. I liked him because he’s also a no apologies kind of guy, brutal but definitely a man of integrity. I thought that Almost Human was an imaginative spellbinding story that kept me on the edge of my seat, and deserves its first place on my keeper shelf.
