|Brett knows it's his job as alpha to protect his town and the werewolves in it, even if they don't see it that way. When a skittish lone wolf, Wendy, is in danger, it's almost a compulsion to protect her. Wendy, however, has other ideas. Her crazy ex is her problem and as both a policewoman and a werewolf, she's determined to be the one to get rid of him and the risk he poses to her and her friends. Wendy not only drives Brett crazy with her stubborn refusal to accept his protection and help, but also her determination to stay out of his bed and his life. No matter how incredibly sexy Brett is, Wendy isn't willing to put him right in the path of her ex because anyone she cares about seems to become a target. Brett could turn into the biggest of them all as she finds herself falling in love with him.
I loved this book. Brett and Wendy have incredible chemistry whether they're fighting their attraction or just plain old fighting. When they get together in the bedroom, their chemistry is almost explosive with some great sex scenes for the reader to enjoy. Brett is not only an alpha in title but in his actions. However, I really enjoyed the fact that Wendy never just left it all up to him and that her character knew her personal strength. Those two really make this book so enjoyable to read. I was also impressed that this book had so much of what I enjoy in a werewolf romance and yet it managed to keep its unique story and feel. The book briefly has the three main characters of Mating Call in it and is set in the same time and place, but both are completely stand alone novels.
