Always in My Heart tells the story of Cara Williams. In 1943 Randall Williams left his wife and two sons to go to war. He was later declared missing in action to be presumed dead. Now the year is 1946 and Rand has been found. Cara does not know whether to be happy he is alive or upset that he would return now that she has moved on with her life. Cara and Randall were having problems prior to him leaving without explaining himself, now she will be expected to welcome him home.

Rand has come home from the war to find all he knows has changed. His wife is now working, the farm is gone, there is a new child calling Cara, mommy and his cousin Evan is spending a lot of time with his wife. He is angry that she could forget him so easily. He wants to be with his family but he does not know how. And he is jealous… just how close have Evan and Cara become while he was gone?

Always in My Heart is a roller coaster ride of emotion. I was all set to be upset when he comes home with the attitude that no one knows what he has been through. He thought things should have remained the same as when he left. He is harsh when speaking to Cara and turned me against him from the start. But as time goes on the character undergoes a change. We recognize his fear and jealousy causes him to act out in anger. Cara's character has my sympathy from the beginning. Although she may have made a few mistakes, she is a strong woman that has done the best she can with what she has. The supporting characters in the story all seem to have used Cara and they do not appreciate her for what she has done for them. They go on to cause her more problems as they interfere with her relationship with Rand. As the story progresses and all problems seem to be working out right, the author throws us for a curve. The plot of the story is based around Cara and Rand recognizing the love that was always there. They say that anything worth having doesn't come easy and that is definitely true with this romantic tale. The author, Barri Bryan does a wonderful job of manipulating the readers' emotions. The ups and downs of this story will keep you turning the pages just to see what happens next. This is a passionate romance with very sensual encounters between the two main characters. I felt like I was watching an old black and white WWII movie where you have a handsome star coming home from the war. I feel readers of romance will love this book especially those that enjoy historical romances.
