| Isabel is a convict. She was imprisoned after a car accident in which a child was killed. She was in the hospital when the verdict was read. Once a month, an egg was taken from her body and implanted in an artificial womb. This was now her life. She never received any mail. She ceased to exist for her friends and family when she was sentenced. She was given a choice. She could go back in time as a corrector, or she could serve out her sentence. In her day and age, time travel is possible. Only journalists are allowed to go back in time to interview different historic personages. When they do something that changes history, prisoners are used as correctors to correct the time line. If they fail in their mission, they are erased out of existence.
Isabel's assignment is to find a young French member of the nobility. Because of the journalist who interviewed his mother, Jean de Bourbon-Dampierre learned of the Crusades and decided to join. Since one of Jean's descendants becomes a future king of France, it is Isabel's assignment to find him and get him back home. And so, Isabel goes back in time. She wakes up and starts off to Chartres to find Jean. She has enough money to last for about a year. She heads for a cathedral and meets up with a child, Charles. This child stays with her and advises her. She finds Jean and tries to convince him to go back home. Jean is stubborn and refuses to go. Will Isabel be able to convince Jean to go back home? Will Jean give up his idea of joining the Crusade? If Isabel can't convince Jean, will she be erased? I love the way Jennifer Macaire continued the story she began with ALEXANDER THE GREAT. This story deals with the same method of time travel and the corporation in charge of it. It also shows what happens when a journalist screws up and changes time and how prisoners are used to correct their mistakes. ANGELS ON CRUSADE is a wonderfully written story, filled with all kinds of historical figures. The characters are all richly embellished. The setting is all very realistic, right down to how people would scratch their heads looking for lice. If you like time travels and have an interest in French history, ANGELS ON CRUSADE is a book you must have!
