Working as a veterinary assistant and by day and a dominatrix at the Whipped Cream BDSM Club at night does not leave much time for fun, relaxation, or men in Moonlight Madison's life. Not that she minds. She's dedicated to becoming a veterinarian and won't let anything hold her back. If she sometimes, ok a lot of the time, wishes for a man to dominate her sexually, well, she'll have time for that once she's set up her own veterinary practice.

Blake Hunter can't wait any longer for Moon however. He's waited three long years and his patience has run out. He needs her now so he signs up for an entire night at the Whipped Cream, with Moon as his dominatrix. However, he has no plans to let her dominate him. He knows what she wants, what she needs, and he intends to be the man to fulfill her every fantasy.

Their time together takes a turn towards the personal when Blake invites her back to his home for the weekend. He needs time to convince Moon that they belong together, and he has to find a way to tell her about his other nature, the side that makes him so animalistic. The weekend starts off explosively, going from one sexual encounter to another, but in between, Blake and Moonlight spend time together, getting to know each other and seeing what they have in common. Blake thinks are going good, but what will happen when he shows Moon her other side? Will she accept it, and him, or will she leave him behind out of fear?

Animal Instincts is a fascinating story of a woman who has struggled all her life, alone and lonely, trying to make her way in the world. Moon is very ambitious and very hardworking. She may not like her job at the Whipped Cream, but she knows it's a fast way to pay off some of her loans. Readers will like Moon because she's down to earth and reliable, used to the normal in life. When she finds out that there are other things out there in the world, things of a paranormal nature, she is thrown for a loop for sure, but she's willing to believe. As her name suggests, Moonlight is open to all kinds of possibilities. However, she finds it hard to truly open her heart to Blake and that story is what will make the reader interested in the romance between Blake and Moon.

I enjoyed this story immensely. Jaci Burton is a wonderful storyteller and Animal Instincts is yet another example of how she creates a spellbinding world that the reader becomes thoroughly enchanted with. .
