| Dusty Monroe apparently has a perfect life, with perfect friends, perfect fiancée, perfect job. Too bad that the perfect fiancée has begun using her as a punching bag. Dusty, unsure on how to handle this dramatic change in the once loving man, goes into denial. That escape route lasts only so long as her friends begin to cop on to what is happening. Stuck between her desire to escape the violent relationship and saving face, suddenly the choice is taken away from her. During the rescue attempt for a little girl in the middle of a forest fire, Dusty is hurled into another place and, she soon starts to think, another time. But which time? Gregor is the leader of a group of people who prevent the local powerful and evil landlord from kidnapping and selling women. A prophesy is given to him about a woman he has to save from the flames and her past. Reluctant to believe it, he ignores it until Dusty figuratively shows up in his back yard.
This novel opens with a pang and maintains the steam most of the way through. Dusty is a believable character and her abusive relationship is described with honesty and accuracy. Gregor is a wonderful character and the chemistry between the two is explosive. This time travel with an unusual twist is certainly refreshing but is marred by one major weakness. I found that the solution to the dilemma towards the end of the novel was too easy to be believable. Rather than being a logical solution to what has been a very logical (if you can call time travel logical at all) story line, it is reduced to a trick of the authorial trade and ruins the pleasure of the book. If you can overlook this fault, however, you will surely enjoy this novel.
