| Drakon is a shape shifting dragon. While in his dragon form, he hunts and does what he must to survive. As a man, he can sometimes be the same way. His companions are fated, and he knows them as soon as he sees them. They stay with him to ease his loneliness, but they have all aged naturally and eventually die of old age. It’s made him a bit hard, but he’s really looking forward to the next pet. This time, he thinks that it might be better if he persuades his companion instead of demanding compliance, because after all, isn’t that how his last pet ended up dead?
Matt meets Drakon and is fascinated by his looks but is repelled by his overconfident manner and bossy ways. On his way home one night, Drakon saves him from a brutal beating, and it seemed natural to recover at Drakon’s home. After that, he thinks that Drakon is incredibly sexy so he decides that it would be a shame to turn down a relationship with him, at least until he goes to college. He could always leave if he doesn’t like the way things are going, or can he? This is a different kind of story, and frankly I was never really sure that I liked Drakon. I thought that he was rather brutal and hard to like, but I guess you get that way when you’ve lived as long as he has and had so many different companions come into your life. I was initially surprised that Matt put up with his overbearing ways, but in the end Matt didn’t seem to be a very strong personality anyway. There is a lot of sex and M/M action in this story, and not a lot of romance, so it’s not something for someone that likes a lot of romance in their books. I will say that it captured my attention and I had a hard time putting it down, so if you are in the mood for something unusual, A Private Hunger is definitely one to try.
