Dmitri was a vampire almost a thousand years old thrown together with Honor, a hunter, who had been traumatized by vampires. He has loved and lost his family when he was made into what he was. He would never love another, but Honor pulled at him and his vow. He was second to Raphael, the archangel, who ruled the city. Raphael was the only one who knew his past and stayed his friend all these long years. Honor was a weakness but he swore he had to have her to get her out of his system. But every time he sees Honor, he wants her more than just for the game of having her in his bed. He wants her forever at his side.

Honor was an orphan who made her self a strong woman. But that was tested severely with the savage attack and imprisonment she suffered through. She was barely hanging on, hiding out from living and Sara forced her to step in to help with an investigation with Dmitri. Together they must solve the murders happening in the city. She was brought in to decipher an old language tattooed on a severed head. There are other players involved and they are trying to destroy them. In the midst of danger, Honor finds herself falling for Dmitri. But shadows of a past long gone is confusing her. Showing her pictures of who and what Dmitri was.

This book is packed with drama, suspense and romance. I loved every bit of it. Nalini Singh is an amazingly talented writer. You really feel the emotions of Dmitri and Honor, live what they survived. I can't wait to see whose story she does next. The way Honor was damaged and yet still attracted to Dmitri, how she overcame the fear to live again was amazing. I would have liked to hear more of how she was rescued from the room she was kept in. This is a must have for your library.
