| Rance Burgoyne is definitely what you would call a playboy, even in the polite aristocracy of 1817. He concerns himself only with the decision of which card game and harlot he will choose for the night. His grandmother, the Countess of Pennyworth, only wishes to see him married with an heir to their name. Rance will have none of that. At the age of 29 marriage is the last thing on his mind. That is until he meets a widow that turns his head and his heart completely around.
Patience Hartford had just lost her husband to the war. Returning from Calcutta, India, Patience was in the mood for a lover. Her husband being a good ten years her senior, Patience needed to feel the love of a strong, virile young man. After meeting Rance at the Huntingdon Ball, Patience finds the lover she seeks. But one cannot possess the body and not mingle with the heart. A Reckless Affair is filled page to page with lust and polite society. From the beginning the lust of Rance and Patience is in full bloom. I thought Rance was a strong male character and Patience definitely gives him a run for his money. I thought the storyline was well researched. In this story Blaise Kilgallen proves that even the most aristocratic women of polite society can fall under the spell of a reckless affair.
