The Duke of Arrington is a secretive man, having learned over many lifetimes that not everyone what they seem and many will betray him for his alternative white tiger form. The tigers are the rarest of the Panthera but the white tiger is considered lesser by its yellow brothers. Hiding behind his title, very few see the man Nicholas really is.

As an Abcynian Guard and partially converted Panthera, Regan knows secrets of the ancient race. Her parents have served the elders for many hundreds of years and she is happy to do the same. However, meeting Nicholas and discovering secrets within their world changes everything for her.

The fourth book in Ms Stockton's Panthera series returns us to England this time in 1784. Although some of the social expectancies of English life and customs are shown throughout the book, there are a number of places where the lack of accuracy interferes with the flow of the story. The rules for Panthera mating and marriage have been changed although no reason for this is given and it takes something away from the special intimacy of the Panthera bonding found in the earlier books and I also found the inconsistencies with the first book to be confusing in places.

I have enjoyed reading this series over all, the characters are vibrant and exciting, while retaining the noble air of the English aristocracy and the endless war between the Panthera and the Sarturians is captivating, and one can only hope that the Panthera people have seen the last of Zotikos and siblings for many years.
