| What a spectacular book! I have never heard of this author, but I’m sold on the work! This one will definitely go far! Especially during this time of unrest and war in our world, this story is poignant with history as well as de’ja vu. Lt. Ron Miller and Ms. Katie McNeill are such a perfect couple that it is actually heartbreaking when troubles come into their new relationship.
Ron is inactive Army Reserves while pursuing his master’s degree in history; Katie has worked in the records office since graduating from The University of Maryland. Ron has been at the university for two years when he falls for Katie. Both are older than the normal college students, but that did not stop Jimmy (Ron’s rich roommate) from trying to date Katie. She was more interested in Ron and continuously told Jimmy that they were just friends. Then things got more interesting…then Pearl Harbor occurred. Life would never be the same for them after Ron came back from Christmas break with his parents. Jimmy has joined the Marines, Ron has been reactivated, and Billy, their other roommate, got his draft notice! Now Katie is about to leave for her hometown because she has a “problem!” I loved the way the author expressed herself while bringing the couple together. She also used various informative ways of introducing Ron’s Army buddies and their wives; she weaved the storyline flawlessly. Even though the ending of the story is possibly expected, it was certainly not “cookie-cutter.” Ms. Campbell told the story so that you were aware that war is not only hard to live through, but also not always survivable. The way the couples were dependent upon each others’ help, but none were without problems. This tale definitely was not a superficial rendition of war. I can guarantee smiles, and I can promise tears. Frustration will lurk in the background! I do, however, promise that you will not be disappointed with this book, even if historical romance is not your genre. Kudos to the author! If I could, I would give it a TEN!
