Stevie worked in a pet store and developed a crush on Mark Weldon, a customer. Disappointed at finding him married, she wandered out into the back alley in time to see him fighting with someone. Then he disappears right in front of her.

Chloe is the assistant security manager at the Dimensional Shift, a hotel for humans and other parallel dimensional beings. Chloe and her friend, Ian, visit the pet store in Stevie's dimension to get a special light for her pet crystal tarantula. Stevie is suspicious of the pair when she sees them enter the same alley where Mark disappeared. She is too close when they initiated their transfer back to their dimension and gets caught up with them, landing her in a place from her wildest dreams. Is Mark here at the hotel? Can she find him? And after encounters with some of the other hotel guests, does she even want to?

Aspect Ratio is Book 2 of the series Shift Happens. This is a nice, standalone book. When Stevie finds herself transported, she doesn't really believe everything Chloe and Ian tell her. Scared, she does what any of us would do, she tries to escape. And finds herself in even more trouble. Chloe, on the other hand, is out of her depth when she takes over temporarily for her boss. The incidents she faces are more involved than just her part in the unintentional arrival of a human. Having her boyfriend stealing things from her files only complicates matters. She doesn't know if she can even trust him and she's all ready in enough trouble.

There is a lot of set up in the first few chapters but then the story really gets moving. I'd call this a fun book because I love the strange guests at the hotel and their particular idiosyncrasies. Sergeant Soon, the orangutan investigator, is delightful, and the puns about his name are great. Frances Pauli created a very strange, but fascinating world of parallels and inter-dimensions that leaves you wondering what is going to show up next. A fun read.
