This romance is set in the year 1346. Leandra of Lyonese is betrothed to marry Reginald of Tremelyn. Leandra is sixteen years old and has been raised by nuns. This is Reginald's second marriage. He is now widowed from a woman that he loved dearly. Leandra fears that Reginald will not go through with the betrothal and if he does, that it will never result in love. For this reason she goes in search of a love potion that she plans to give to Reginald when they meet. Unfortunately for Leandra, Reginald becomes ill and is unable to go and retrieve his bride to be. In his place he sends Garrett of Bernay, a loyal young knight that would give his life before dishonor. Through a series of unfortunate circumstances Leandra and Garrett learn to depend on one another and love is the result.

A Tender Magic, is a well-written story I am sure you will enjoy. Linda Madl brings to life this medieval setting through her descriptive writing. The sounds of a castle and its people are easy to picture. The characters are creatively and full developed. You will soon recognize them physically, as well as by their individual personalities. The plot is simple to follow and all aspects are fully addressed. The interactions between the characters are interesting and follow in correct sequence. The emotions displayed by the characters are felt through the reading, as is the passion the two main characters feel for one another. The heartbreak and misery the two characters experience when they realize that they are in love and unable to act on that love, is almost tangible. This is an emotionally powerful story that you can lose yourself in as you read. I am sure that this book will soon become one of your favorites. For these reasons I recommend this book to those of you who enjoy a gentle fantasy where the young maiden falls in love with the handsome knight.
