| Daphne Summerhayes is not in a very good mood. She has been planning this trip to Italy with her neighbor and best friend for quite some time. Instead of going to Italy, Daphne will be stuck being a chaperone for her cousin’s come-out this season in London. Daphne had her own come-out years ago. She is twenty-four now and has been managing her father’s household for some time. Since he enjoys his comforts, her father has no desire to see Daphne wed. Before going to London, Daphne ends up having two unpleasant encounters with Lord Courtlea. Lord Courtlea also ends up in possession of a family heirloom. Daphne’s younger brother tells her he misplaced it, when, in reality, he lost the emerald at cards to Lord Courtlea. Daphne doesn’t find out the truth until she has stolen the emerald from Lord Courtlea. Her conscience is bothering her terribly about this whole incident. Lord Courtlea, on the other hand, can’t understand Daphne’s animosity. Since he has just broken off with his latest paramour, he decides Daphne will make an outstanding replacement. He continually runs into her while in London. How will Daphne get the emerald back to Lord Courtlea? What of her cousin, Sophie? How does her come-out progress? How will Lord Courtlea win Daphne over, when everything he tries to do just sets her back up? A VERY PROPER THIEF is a highly entertaining Regency romp. Patricia Harrison has done an excellent job of bringing the period to life in this entertaining story. We have a thief and a rogue in this story and all their adventures are sure to bring a smile. A VERY PROPER THIEF held my attention from the very first page. The characters are all wonderfully written as well. I really enjoyed the reunion of Daphne’s aunt and uncle. I highly recommend this one to all lovers of Regency romance.
