Rosy Scott, single mother of two boys, did not handle men or relationships well. Her sons, 7-year-old Matthew and Joshua, 5, became her entire life after her ruined marriage following her first heartbreak years earlier. She was determined that she did not need a man. It didn’t even matter than she barely made enough money to feed and clothe her boysshe never had anything new for herself.

On the other hand, Benedict Laverton, rolling in dough, was not against women but he was adverse to commitment. His seventy year-old mother, Martha, enjoyed using his bachelor status for her own fund-raising endeavors. When Benedict found out he was to be auctioned off, he found Rosy, seated in the back, dressed in a horrible outfit, and he asked her for help. He did not want to be obligated to anyone, so he asked her to bid on him and told her he would give her $5,000 to bid. Rosy, however, got so carried away that she bid $10,000. She just hoped he would cover the bid and she wouldn’t have to finance the other half.

Ms. Stephanie Anne Street is a new author to me. She was, however, great in her presentation of an unlikely plot with characters who seemed like they were real. From Martha, the mother, to the two kids, Ms. Street maintained high standards to create a storyline which was attention grabbing and very hard to put down. This was not a cut-and-dried story, however. There were many twists and turns in their relationship. There were some real surprises as well.
