In 1695 Celia Honeywell was hanged as a witch, betrayed by her lover and the father of her child, Liam Halestrom. Just before she died she cursed Liam and all of his descendants to fall in love with a witch and to die young. Luke is one of the only two of the Halestroms left. A journalist, he is determined to find out more about the curse and to possibly end it. He does not expect that Bianca Honeywell would be so enticing. Bianca is just as much a victim of the curse as the Halestrom men. She and her female ancestors are fated to die alone because men fear the curse even if they are not Halestroms. She is equally determined to end the curse; hopefully before a third party decides to end it in his own way.

The magical and beautiful Bianca is an original character, not just because of her natural powers. She just radiates goodness and tries to help those around her. Luke fears dying young like the males in his family before him, and he does not believe in magic, really. I liked the setting in the small town of Clover Falls. The townspeople are evidence that people really are the same over the centuries. There are those that still blame the local witch and those who seek her help. The scene with the town historian’s dog is the best example of that. The twins Miles and Fallon act as Bianca’s conscience as well as her best friends. The author builds the romance between the two main characters rather quickly as if they can’t help themselves and I enjoyed watching Luke’s perceptions change. Cabot Halestrom, the cousin from Texas is truly creepy, in looks as well as intentions and makes a fantastic villain. His quest for revenge makes for a very exciting climax to the story. This is a really great read.
