| Nick Banner is asked by his friend, Jonathan Loring, to take Loring's daughter to safety. Someone wrote to him of a plot to kidnap his daughter, and he fears for her safety. He trusts Nick, and believes he can keep her safe. Nick doesn't want to take Tressa on his ship; she's too much of a temptation. But he cannot deny Jonathan. The only problem is that the trip will take several weeks, and Tressa isn't to know exactly what is going on. She'll be told that she's picking up a high security shipment and nothing more. Along with the kidnappers after Tressa, Nick's enemy and ex-partner, Kendyl, is after him. Tressa has a dislike of Nick after hearing so many rumors of his promiscuity. When she gets on his ship, attraction flares between them but so does antagonism.
Banner's Bonus was a traditional futuristic romance with some exceptional qualities to it, including some very vivid action scenes. Sometimes while reading them, I started thinking of Star Wars. I enjoyed the different worlds Nick and Tressa visited, though most of the story occurred on Nick's ship. I did have a lot of trouble enjoying Tressa as a character. She was too naive and judgmental, despite her apparent will power and intelligence. Judging Nick as someone she didn't want to be around just because of rumors was irritating to me. Nick only occasionally annoyed me with classic hero behavior of driving off the heroine, but overall, I liked his cockiness. It would be interesting to see stories of Nick's other brothers, especially if the author included more world traveling and those awesome action scenes. Banner's Bonus shows the skills of a promising author, and I hope she continues to develop those skills in future books. Reviewer's Note: Banner's Bonus was originally published by Dorchester in 1995 and this is a rewritten, and republished, version.
