Brian is finally away from his family and on his own. It’s taken a lot of doing, as they consider him crippled due to his lack of a twin and ripe for getting into trouble. Now that he’s in his new apartment and realizes that he may have bit off more than he can chew, particularly when his night starts to go drastically wrong. It all starts when he gets attacked by a local gang and in the process gets thrown in the middle of a lot more than he ever dreamed. Through it all he starts to get to know a man that could be his one and only.

Joe had never really had gay fantasies, but when Brian comes to live with him after his attack he’s starting to feel more than he ever thought he could for a man. Joes got plenty of problems on his own though, and isn’t sure he’s ready for a relationship… but can he let Brian go?

I thought this was a pretty good story, for the most part. I didn’t think that there was a lot of passion between the two; at times it seemed that they were more friends that happened to get together than lovers. I didn’t really understand the dynamics of the Huntsmen society, and it wasn’t fully explained so at times I found myself at a loss for the reason they were doing things and why they did them. I liked how the characters each had their own set of challenges, Brian is determined to make it on his own and is immediately dumped into a situation that makes all his instincts go on alert, but he does a great job of handling all of the things that happen to him. Joe seems to be dragged along whether he wants to be or not, but is a great guy. He’s already got a mom in a “weird” relationship and had no thoughts about getting involved with someone as strange. In an interesting twist, Joe had never really thought of himself as gay, but when Brian came along he seemed to have very little problem with going that way. I liked the thoughts he had in his head sometimes; it was amusing… thoughts that were really saying “am I supposed to do this now that I’m gay?” The story was pretty dark and left a lot of threads hanging… I’m sure it’s part of a series, but it doesn’t seem to have a lot of connection to the first one. I was intrigued by Joe’s mother and her two men, I wanted to know more about the society and how it works. The Huntsmen 2: Bareback was a story that kept me on the edge of my seat and kept me up late reading… it’s definitely worth a try!
