| Marie Bernard has put her life on hold for the past ten years since the death of her parents. She’s raised her younger brother and sister and kept the family antique business going. Now her life is about to go up in smoke. A ruthless man threatens her family unless she finds the diamonds that have been smuggled in a shipment of antique furniture. A very suspicious and attractive FBI agent, LD Carmouche, won’t let her out of his sight, and the most of the furniture has been sold. LD has his own reasons for following Marie. Besides the fact that he is very attracted to her, her tormentor, Black, caused the death of a very important woman in his past.
This is one of the most exciting romantic suspense novels I have read in a long long time. The author starts out with a bang and this is only the beginning of the roller coaster ride. The action moves from Boston in winter to New Orleans during Mardi Gras. Marie’s efforts to shake LD from her tail are very creative, as are Black’s intimidation tactics. Marie and LD are complex and charismatic characters that the reader will love. Both have issues to overcome that add to the drama. The other characters in the book are equally well done, especially LD’s friend Rob and father Kevin, the governor. The love scenes are very sensual and the various subplots add to rather than detract from the story. The climax during a Mardi Gras parade is a nail biter. I wouldn’t want to give too much away, but if you are looking for a novel with great characters, action, plot and a wonderful love story, this is definitely the novel for you.
