Former high school star quarterback, now Sheriff, Cody Greene and bookish high school class valedictorian, now Libriaran, Marianne Chalmers, widowed, live in the small West Texas town of Starling, where the years big excitement tends to happen around Rodeo Week. The Sheriff, getting a call in the early hours of one morning goes to check out the situation and finds that the town librarian is flitting around in her nightgown and not at all acting her normal self, and so begins the downfall of Sheriff Greene....and he never has the slightest chance. Marianne, because she has had since the death of her husband problems sleeping, is taken by a friend to a herbalist who gives her a sleeping tonic. It turns out that this tonic is just exactly what she needed.....

Cody has always thought that he isn't the marrying kind, and has nothing to offer a woman as a family man. His last girlfriend left him because he just couldn't bring himself to give in and let himself settle down. He doesn't even have an inkling that this night will change the way he feels about himself.

Marianne wakes up the next morning feeling better than she has felt in a very long time, but she slowly begins to notice certain odd things during the day, that make her somewhat uncertain. How in the world did she end up with rug burns? How is it that her dream lover seems to resemble a certain person? Why is she having enticingly vivid images of all things sexual? And lightening bits of her erotic dreams seem so very real. Why is she suddenly finding herself looking at him, someone so totally out of her league, and not at all her type, and finding that her feelings explode into major soaking wet lust at the sight of him....What is going on?

Cody doesn't know what exactly he should do about the last night...How is she going to act? What caused her to actually be in that strange state? Is she going to remember anything? What should he do? What should he say-should he confess that things got out of hand and that he couldn't help himself? He had such an mindblowing experience that he has spent every minute since last night thinking---about women in his past, and how his relations with them have been. He has this absolute feeling that something amazing happened this night and that nothing with ever be the same. What, he asks himself, is it that I am feeling; what are these thoughts all of the sudden? Nothing like this has he ever experienced with any other woman. And then the next night happens......

This is just a delightful story. Very well described are the town, the townspeople, just the feel for a typical dusty West Texas small town comes across very well. Well depicted are the thoughts running through the characters minds, the slight insecurities, the typical small town feel where everybody-knows-everything-and-everyone, and there is some absolutely hilarious dialogue ...If you enjoy just a fun story, I recommend this wholeheartedly.
