The Black Widow is a well paid assassin who uses sex to lure her victims into her web. As a woman Reyna has few weaknesses except shopping, an itch her job allows her to scratch at will. She doesn’t allow herself to become close to anyone except her longtime friend Diego.

The author manages to weave a web of her own as she tells Reyna’s story. It titillates us as she enjoys teasing the men in her life. She elicits compassion for the woman whose parents were killed when she was a teenager in Havana. We learn she escaped Cuba with Diego and the two are still searching for the killers.

Marissa de A’mor involves us in Reyna’s life, making a cold blooded killer human. Like in an old western, Reyna becomes the Sheriff who never really gets the girl/guy in the end because she/he is too busy driving the bad guys out of town. We just can’t dislike her for doing her job. Before we know it we’re so wrapped in the story that we don’t want it to end. We just know it’s not all bad and that Reyna will somehow solve all of her problems and become a different person. This is the best kind of fiction.
