| Katerina, Princess of Alluvia and her brother, Prince Balthazar, are in a dilemma; one of them must marry within the month or their cruel Uncle Talbot, the late king’s brother, will become the new King. The siblings had one year to rule together, and within that time whoever married first would become the ruler of Alluvia. Now they were down to the end of the year. The formal ball they hosted was by invitation only to the “higher-ups” in the area. Any one of them would have been a suitable match for either the brother or the sister.
There was one couple there who the young prince and princess did not know; their interest, however, was very evident. Likewise, the couple (which turned out to be another brother-sister team) had an obvious interest in the couple. Assuming the role of a Duke, Daxton, and his sister, Giselle, were forced by Uncle Talbot to pursue the royals so that they would miss the dates required for one of them to wed. Attention-grabbing, right? What a phenomenal book! I honestly do not have words enough to describe this book! The plot is extraordinary, and the characters are astonishing. Ms. Brenda Williamson writes some of the strongest characters I have read; the Princess Katerina, as well as “Duke” Dax, are both typically leadership material. While Dax was led to believe that Katerina was a snob, the characteristics of her were definitely those of a strong, caring lady. Dax was quickly smitten but knew of no way to abort Talbot’s scheming. Likewise, Prince Balthazar and Princess Giselle were strong, howbeit emotional, tender-hearted individuals. They obviously were not the strong leaders that Dax and Katerina were portrayed to be! I was fascinated to watch these two couples grow closer while fighting for what was most important in their individual lives. This is the most remarkable book I have read in a long time. Although historical in genre, this novel will appeal to anyone who loves to read. Kudos to Ms. Williamson! To say this book is award winning will still not do justice to this marvelous work!
