Emma Chegwidden is in Moricadia making her way in life as a lady’s paid companion. Demure English women like Emma shouldn’t be interested in the society’s rules, other than to follow them unquestionably. But as the panic and frenzy increases in the political society, Emma finds herself immensely interested in the Reaper. The Reaper is a mystery man to all in Moricadia, but his goal is to overthrow the evil prince and save the Moricadians. Emma shouldn’t be attracted to him, but she can’t help herself and neither can the Reaper. Will they survive the battle? And what chance do they have for a relationship?

Do you enjoy historical romances, but are tired of the same story over and over again? If so, go grab a copy of this book today. At no point did I consider this book boring or just another historical romance. Set in Moricadia, the reader is instantly entertained by this unusual and exciting society. Moricadian socialites mixing with English ton makes for a lot of interesting events and episodes. The Moricadians can be a very insular group of people that don’t care for outsiders, but Emma is immediately taken in by the Moricadians due to her wonderfully sweet personality. But there is a constant feeling of danger surrounding Emma. As the desire grows between her and the enigmatic Reaper so does the danger. Their craving of each other puts them in constant jeopardy of being discovered and then they would be killed as traitors to Moricadia. There is so much suspense in this book. It kept me on edge and full of worry and concern until the very end. Danger and death play a significant part in this book. The supporting characters are fantastically entertaining and bring a little extra spice to the plot. I’ve been a long-time fan of Ms. Dodd’s’ but this book has not just brought her back to the historical romance genre, but it has made her once again one of the top authors in this genre.
