| Breathtaking, exquisite, bold, romantic, and suspenseful are only a handful of words that describe Before the Dawn. I will admit that Denise A. Agnew is a new to me author and the book being historical intrigued from the start. The settings in the Pennsylvania Mountains on a train to Pittsburgh were rich with colors, sights and sounds. I really felt like I was on the train and in the hotels. From the moment that Mary Jane laid eyes on Elijah you could feel the tension building between them. The book follows Mary Jane and Elijah's journey from sadness and anger to love and redemption.
All Elijah wanted after being in prison for five years was to find his brother and exact revenge for a crime that he didn't commit. Mary Jane was accompanying her father's body back home to for burial. What they didn't expect was for danger to follow them at every turn or to fall in love. Their love story was slow to build but well worth the time. You really felt like you got to know Elijah and Mary Jane and sighed right along with them. That's one of the reason why I like historical romance; the slow build up, the little touches, the chivalry and the pure joy of falling love. While their coupling was slow to build, it was worth the wait. It was tender, loving and wholly romantic. I highly recommend Before the Dawn to anyone that is a diehard romantic longing for a book that is packed full of romance, suspense and two people destined to find the love and redemption that they were looking for. I look forward to reading more from Denise Agnew. Sigh.
