Desperate to escape an arranged marriage, Lady Alexandra Darrow poses as Lord Alex Montague while traveling to her family, the McPhersons, in Scotland. During her journey, Alex is forced to rescue a young maiden, Constance Blackmore, from a thief. Constance then insists that Alex escort her home. Reluctantly, Alex does so.

When they arrive at Derwin Hall, a small army is preparing to search for Constance. Instead of receiving thanks for seeing the girl safely home, Alex is dragged roughly from her horse. A furious brute steps forward and accuses Alex of wrongdoing. When Constance comes to Alex’s rescue, she learns that the man is Constance’s older brother, Lord Bronson. The family decides to continue the discussion inside, and Alex then finds herself being dragged along, in the firm and powerful grasp of Lord Bronson.

From the moment he first lays eyes on Lord Alex, Bronson knows that the lad is up to something. At first, he believes Alex is a fortune hunter out to claim Constance’s dowry, but he soon discovers Alex is really a female. He decides that there is only one explanation for the disguise. Alex is a spy for his family’s enemies, the McPhersons.

Bronson wants to learn exactly what treachery Alex is involved in, but several problems stand in his way. First of all, she tries to escape at every opportunity. Then there’s Constance, who keeps trying to seduce her hero, Lord Alex. And finally, Bronson has to fight his constant desire to take Alex in his arms and make passionate love to her.

While much of this story is filled with hilarious comedy, it is very intense as well. The sizzling chemistry between Bronson and Alex is there from the beginning, even before he realizes she’s a woman. It builds to a heated frenzy until Bronson takes what he wants. He is an aggressive hero, but Alex is strong enough to handle him. I hope Ms. Keaton plans on giving some of her wonderful secondary characters stories of their own. I’m sure they would be just as entertaining as this fabulous medieval romance.
