| After escaping her past, Sara Covington created a new identity and found a niche for herself as a crime scene photographer, utilizing her special ability to see people's auras. When she becomes the target of a serial killer, it soon becomes apparent that her past has caught up with her. Working with Detective Brian Roney bring new fears. Desire smolders and, together with his respect and compassion, has her dreaming of a life that she knows is unobtainable.
Sara's past is filled with betrayal, pain and is utterly miserable. She clearly believes that the door to that past is firmly locked tight. The killer, however, forces that door open, destroying the peace she'd found. She's strong and capable, somewhat prickly, which adds for some entertaining dialogue, especially between secondary characters. She's a loner, keeping even those she likes at arm's length. Brian is a temptation hard to resist and the tension between these two smolders and ignites. I enjoyed reading Behind Blue Eyes a lot. But there are areas which I found pulled me right out of the story and at times even somewhat irritated me. Sara has a past, but the author uses this past as a 'then and now' type scenario and frequently. I can fully appreciate why the author wrote her story this way -- it does give the reader background and understanding. Personally, I didn't find it necessary. I did however, love Sara, the 'now' part of the story proved to be a page-turner that didn't let up. I found myself gripped and highly entertained not only by Sara's interaction with the other characters but also her growing relationship with Brian. The author has that wonderful ability to have you caring for the characters and wanting them to find resolutions and happiness. She creates memorable characters you will not soon forget. I did find this a first rate and well written book and one that I recommend reading. It is something a bit different, special - even with my personal grumblings. T L Schaefer is an author to watch out for.
