After the freighting experience of being caught in the middle of a German spy ring, Lady Emma Houndsdale has sworn off men and casual sex. Embarking on her new life, in May of 1930 Emma travels as passenger on a steamship heading to Cairo. But when her ship sinks several hours outside of Naples on the coast of Mussolini's Italy, Emma is washed to shore and taken prisoner by what she assumes is a band of thieves and informed all the passengers of the Lady Rose are assumed dead.

Marco Antonioni's political opposition to Mussolini and his Blackshirt regime had forced him and his former tenants into hiding. In the midst of his resistance activities Marco must now deal with the unexpected presence of the beautiful young English woman. Unable to risk allowing Emma to reach the authorities and possibly betray his location, Marco is forced to take Emma with him into their secret community.

Deciding to use her sex appeal and Marco's clear attraction to her advantage, Emma decides to entice Marco into letting go but Emma quickly finds that the attraction runs both ways. Marco quickly fills her life with sensuous passion and the volatile politics of the Italian landscape.

With a backdrop of the lush beauty and turbulent politics of Italy, Ms Dawson's wonderfully constructed romance quickly captures the reader. Unlike Ms. Dawson's first novel Secret Services this sequel is written in third person and completely stands alone from it's predecessor. Ms. Dawson's articulate prose pulls the reader into the turbulent historical landscape and the passion and love between Marco and Emma. Filled with action, suspense, and searing sensuality this book is truly a delight.
