| Marshall Annabelle "Cowgirl" Oakley has just returned from collecting two unusual prisoners, Matruscan females who exude pheromones. No one is immune including Belle. Before she can head out on her next job, Belle needs to take care of her "itch". In the process she meets an unusual and unexpected male. And because of certain happenings in her past, Belle never believed there could be someone out there just for her. Of course, it has to be someone who can't remember his past and has just remembered his name. This unexpected male turns out to be Armand de la Croix.
Armand is one of the most tortured heroes I've encountered in a while. He disappears and appears in Belle's life in such a way that she starts to wonder if she imagined him. In spite of being the best at her job, Belle has always felt like she never quite fit in with the others. Her height and abilities play no small part in her feelings. Armand's last entry into her life merges her latest job with Armand's lost memories and brings about a whole new set of problems. After a lot of ups and downs, betrayals and misunderstandings will Armand and Belle finally get to their happy ending? However, the resolution of Belle's case leaves me wondering if there is going to be a sequel. I certainly hope so. Overall, Belle Starr is a rollicking, fun read that will make you laugh and cry. I love the way Ms. McBride named some of her characters after some of our own historical figures. Combining the wild west with futuristic outer space was a fantastic and unusual idea but it works. Add in a different type of werewolf storyline and you have one unforgettable story.
