Twelve of the Best-2002 is a nicely rounded collection of various stories with different degrees of eroticism. Subtitled as stories of the month we begin with January's:
-
A Sordid Liaison by Brina Katz. A visit into voyeurism with an imaginative sexy slant. Most notably there are no gimmicks in this tale, just a straight sexy read.
- February offers Across the Airways by Suzie Samuels a simple story where you know what the hook is almost from the beginning but the writing skill allows you to enjoy the finale anyway.
- March brings Cabby's Tip by Hayden Davis, featuring public masturbation and fantasizing in a cab. If not the most original plot, it's written in a way that makes it interesting all the same.
- April's contribution is The Garden by Sophie Louis; an earthy voyage into eroticism that is enjoyable and fulfilling with simplistic logic applied to fantasy.
- May's Caring is Sharing by Sydney Leigh centers around a birthday gift that falls flat in its deliverance.
- June's West Texas Cage Dancing by Leslie has some evocative scenes but for the most part the details are rough and do not evoke images that tell a story.
- July's offering of Jewellery by Derek Musgrave is a scintillating trip into the realms of stimulating jewelry.
- In Western Pleasure by Zoe West the dialogue is natural and the story flows but the erotic scenes are rough around the edges and the ending is abrupt. It is almost as if this is an excerpt clipped from a novel.
- September's donation is Paint Me by Jude Mason, a playful escapade into body painting and Mardi Gras.
- Ducks by Elizabeth Coldwell is featured as October's story where a sensual model and photographer find romance with a cute twist.
- November's A Quick Fling by Amber Arlene is the tale of a married man and single woman. Poignant and told well it ends predictably, but is worth the read.
- And rounding out the twelve is December's Christmas Revelation by Lynne den Hartog a tragic cheerless tale of doomed love.
Twelve of the Best-2002 is a nice collection of strong erotic tales with only a few substandard offerings. For the most part I enjoyed this anthology as it hit the right notes and balanced itself with its different scenarios that were thought provoking as well as sensual. Not all were favorites but the overall quality was good and worth the read.
