| Bettina Montgomery is visiting her mother in London just before her mother moves to Australia to live with her daughter Bridget and son-in-law Wes. Her mother drops a bomb when she tells Bettina her biological father is not Nils Montgomery, the man she always thought was her father. Rather, he's an American, Levi Fletcher, Fletch, manager of the rock band Bone Cold--Alive (BCA). Her father never knew about Bettina. Bettina works for The Spires Group, an advertising agency in London and is sent to the U.S. on a job assignment. While she's in the States she takes a week of vacation time to seek out her father. Ron Gregory, drummer for BCA, is in serious gambling trouble with Big Ernie, Erns, of New Orleans. Ron decides to disappear with Fletch's help until things cool off. He hides out at Fletch's remote cabin in Texas and is caught sunbathing nude by a photographer he believes is from a tabloid. She takes the pictures and runs. The photographer is Bettina.
This story accurately captures the complete insanity of the world of rock music - the excesses, the addiction, fame and glory, situations where ego interferes with reality, and all the drama where anyone associated with the famous person or persons is put in the position of fixer - make the problem go away. Fletch is the fixer in this story and is very tired of the back-to-back crisis lifestyle of the band he manages, BCA. The way Bettina and Ron meet is really unusual but adds a bit of whimsy to what becomes a complete carnival ride of adventures. My favorite character in this story is Fletch although he can be a bit of an arrogant ass. However, all the primary characters are very colorful and entertaining. Ron’s grandmother Lou Andersen is also very endearing. This story is a rollercoaster ride of enjoyable reading. I recommend it to everyone.
