| The daughter of a wealthy London Cit, Sapphira Vardon is being forced into an unbearable arranged marriage with the son of one of her father's business associates. She hatches a plan to raise the five thousand pounds she needs in order to set up a new life and disguises herself with an outrageous costume and mask and enters a well known gaming hell and bawdyhouse determined to win her future. Lord Elston recognizes his gaming companion is a woman of quality and he finds himself unusually attracted to her. He must find out who she is and when he does he needs a plan to save her.
I really wanted to love this story, over all it was very well-written and although nothing stood out as glaringly bad I just personally didn't enjoy it as much as I had hoped. Both Sapphira and Corin are strong lead characters and their connection is genuine and believable. I think some of the secondary characters must have been previously introduced and as this is the first story by this author that I read I felt as if I was missing some inside information. All of the cast were quirky in an engaging and entertaining fashion even our villains. The spicy scenes were wonderful and I loved to see how the more mature "young virgin" reacted when introduced to her sexuality. It took me a while to really get into the story and even then I felt as if it dragged on. Without giving anything away I think the solution to Sapphira's trouble was much simpler and easier to come about after Corin discovers his feelings then what ultimately transpired. The historical details were fantastic and if you are a fan of the Georgian time period you will definitely enjoy this one.
