| Violette Poole has just come to England after living her life in France with her mother. She thought she would have a chance to get to know her father, but instead, upon arrival in England, she discovers she is engaged. Violette has no love for her fiancé and will do anything in her power to escape the engagement. Brave and courageous, that’s what she does. Violette flees after the engagement ball. When her father finds out, he hires Captain Ethan Carrick to locate Violette. Ethan finds her quickly, but she won’t go with him until he ruins her. She wants to irrevocably break all ties with her fiancé. Ethan reluctantly agrees. After all, he is very much attracted to her, and he knows her fiancé is a first-class jackass. Ethan also realizes he cannot let her go back to him, or even her father. He brings her to his home in the hopes that she will help his injured brother Charlie find the peace he needs. Will Violette prove to be the happiness and solace the two Carrick brothers need in their lives, or will she just bring more pain and danger into their world?
Between Two Captains is a ménage historical story from Sedonia Guillone. The heat generated between Ethan, Violette, and Charlie is definitely explosive, but in some ways it overshadows their emotional connection. The drama between Violette and her fiancé is intriguing, but the real dramatics ensue once Violette is ensconced with her two captains. Then, the plot picks up and the reader starts to better understand these three characters. Violette is definitely not a typical historical England heroine, but then, she was raised by an actress mother so the way Ms. Guillone created her character actually fit very well with the back story. Most enjoyable in this tale is the growing love and closeness between the three characters. They form their own private world and that is what makes this book so special to read.
