Ric Van Holtz is from a wealthy and cultured werewolf family and he runs one of the most successful of the Van Holtz steak restaurants. He has had the best education and is extremely good looking. Dee Ann Smith is one of the notorious Smith Pack and the daughter of its scariest member Eggie. She is a former member of the Unit, a special unit of shifter Marines. She is rough around the edges and outside of her father, the scariest werewolf there is. It is inevitable that the two are destined to be together. The Group is investigating a ring that kidnaps and forces hybrid shifters to fight to the death. Dee has long been rescuing and educating hybrids and is particularly keen on destroying those responsible. Ric will do anything to help and protect Dee and claim her as his mate.

This is one of my favorite series and I have been reading it since the very first book. Ric has always intrigued me and he really comes into his own in this story. Dee Ann is one of the scariest and meanest of a series of tough heroines. I loved it when her father called her Sugarbug, and the story of Ric and Dee Ann's first meeting was really well done. These two characters have always had an interesting relationship, and I was eagerly waiting for this story. I couldn't wait to see how things would turn out and the love scenes are as exciting as the scenes involving the hybrid fighting ring. The subplot of Ric's father's theft from the Pack adds a lot to the story. I really enjoyed reading about favorite characters again and can't wait to see whose story comes next. Ms. Laurenston's shifter stories should never be missed.
