Lara is a submissive woman who has been trapped in a vanilla relationship for a long time. She has finally separated from her husband, and it wasn't just because he considered her sexual preferences to be obscene, but it was what finally drove her away. While still in her marriage, Lara met Michael on a BDSM website, and the relationship blossomed after she left her husband. They went slowly, and they think they are ready to take the final step of living the BDSM lifestyle full time. Both of them have dreamed of it, but have never been able to live the dream. Will it live up to expectations?

Lara and Michael are two interesting characters that intrigued me from the start. These were two people that were still feeling their way along in their relationship, and they had the added spice of learning how to be a dominant/submissive couple at the same time. Bird in a Cage is told from both characters point of view, so the story switches from Michael first person to Lara first person, which made it a little bit difficult for me to get into the story. Just as I was getting into one character, there'd be a switch and I would be reading what the other one was thinking. There was also the matter of the connection between the two; it just didn't feel like they were really in love. I also think I should mention that there is some pretty hard core BDSM in this one, so it's not for the faint at heart. All that being said, I liked the story. I found it to be an interesting look into the BDSM lifestyle in a way that I hadn't really seen before.
