WOW! I adored this lengthy novel. Told in first person, Birthright is a riveting, exciting book that hooked me from the first word and held me in its grip until the last. Mari's skill in writing first person was such that I really didn't mind not having all the characters' points of view. You come to know them well through the heroine and each of the leading characters own personalities that shine throughout, making them interesting and very much part of a story. The tale wasn't one sided, which sometimes happens in first person point of view. There's plenty of thrilling action, wonderful camaraderie. Sometimes amusing and fun dialogue adds a modern touch to this high fantasy. Love scenes, there are not many and are beautifully written and so sensual and provocative they'll make your toes curl. Mine sure did. The colorful and graphic depictions of the world that Mari created for this story made it a fantastic and memorable reading experience. I recommend this as a book for those that love high fantasy, for lovers of action and strong characters oozing with emotional intensity.
