| Gina Capelli decides to get a little wild and takes vacation to attend a convention for the fans of her favorite nighttime TV soap Bite Me. She won a contest for a spa makeover and a ticket to attend a black tie ball with the cast of the show that features Deacon Black as a sexy vampire. Gina is a shy young woman who is not model thin. Her friends all say she's got a great personality and is cute. Gina wants to be anything but cute. She wants to be sexy, alluring, even vampy. She decides that winning this contest is the opportunity to step up the glamour and to end her long celibacy. Deacon Black is the star of the vampire show with a terrible secret. He needs a virgin once a year to avoid a long standing curse and this year Gina Capelli has the winning ticket. But Gina appeals to Deacon in ways he'd thought he'd never feel and now he has a wicked choice to make.
Bite Me is a short story that I read straight through. Jaci Burton creates a compelling situation with characters that draw the reader into the story. Gina is a woman on a mission but she also has interesting internal dialogue that keeps her from being just a gal on the prowl for sex. Deacon is the debonair vampire who smolders with lust and centuries of experience. He seems to be Gina's perfect solution for a memorable introduction to sex, but when he realizes his true feelings for Gina he has a serious dilemma. It makes what might have been a one dimensional story both touching and tender. And oh yeah, he's hot! He knocked Gina's socks off and the feeling's mutual. This was a surprising and very satisfying little vampire story.
