| The Djinn created the world. To protect it they wove a Tapestry around it to seal it from any outside forces. Now the Tapestry is unraveling. Magpie Windwitch is a young faerie to whom many in the world look for help. As a young faerie she was blessed by the creatures of the land to have unique powers. Now at one hundred years old, still young in this world, she has to call on all she has ever known and then some to help her wake the Djinn. They've given up on the world they created and have gone to sleep in places unknown.
Laini Taylor has started a series that I‘m already addicted to. This is a wonderful book to start us off. All the elements of a tale that I want are woven throughout the pages. There's budding romance. There are fierce battles between creatures that come alive on the pages. There are characters whose antics will put a smile on any reader's face and those that make us feel that sense of suspense and fear that they might win. That would be awful because we come to really adore Magpie and her cohorts. Ms. Taylor mixes the suspense and the fun in ways that keep this book moving quickly. It's hard to put down because the fantasy she weaves draws us into the world and holds us there, involved with all the magic and mayhem. Magpie may be small enough to ride on the back of a crow when she's too tired to fly but she has a heart of gold and a stubborn streak that will make the reader believe in her. This is highly recommended for any reader who wants a unique book that will capture your heart.
