Caitlin Donnelly's life is just as she wants it -- controlled, with a good job as head of P.R. in a manufacturing plant and a nice condo on the shores of Lake Michigan. That is, until a man from years ago re-enters her life. He's the new plant manager and one of many on the list of suspects threatening her life. The danger presents itself upon her return from vacation and she has no clue as to the reason, other than possible drug abuses among employees. It begins first with threatening calls and nasty gifts, then with a brutal attack and finally, a kidnapping. At the same time, her feelings for Mike Rafferty grow in proportion to the increased danger. Will they be able to find who is behind the trouble in the plant before the would-be killer succeeds in ending her life? And what about the growing love between Caitlin and Mike?

This is an unbelievably exciting and heart-wrenching read that made me cry. The author has done an excellent job of building the tension, not only between the hero and heroine, but between them and the ones causing the problems. The characters are so real you feel they actually exist. The author gradually reveals the reasons behind Caitlin's controlled behavior, but that doesn't stop the reader from being frightened for her when she actually puts herself in danger because of the control. The hero, Michael, comes across as a steadfast, honorable man, but one with something in his past that could well shatter their hopes and dreams. The supporting cast includes several who could be the perpetrators of the crimes, and it isn't until the surprising end that we learn the truth. The only problem I found was an occasional difficulty in knowing who was the one speaking in the dialogue; but which I would consider a minor problem. This well-crafted book that not only kept me on the edge of my seat, waiting to see what would happen next, but brought tears to my eyes.

I anxiously await the next book by this author.
