| Battered, penniless, and late for work, the last thing Adam Bates expects from his new boss is compassion. This is the Del Fantasma's owner, Cody we're talking about, and he's about to introduce Adam to a protector that'll rock Adam's world. Marcus Wolf is looking for a little rest and relaxation. Finding a mate in the form of a headstrong, tabby cat in need of protection was not on the agenda. Now, if Marcus can only convince Adam that a Black Wolf is all any man needs.
Adam Bates as a shifter tabby cat and Marcus Wolf as a black wolf had me wondering how this story would work at first. I mean, a cat and a wolf? Come on. Though, it didn't take long until I was routing for their relationship to move forward. I loved the action in this story, from Adam's nervous tension and stubborn independence to the fists over feet brawls. Give me knock down, drag out over sweet romance any day. Of course, as in all Del Fantasma series, Cody was all knowing and secretive as usual. I found nothing I didn't like about this story, except maybe the interruptions to inevitably, hot man sex. But even that aspect fulfilled a role in making Adam and Marcus' relationship believable. Also related, was having Adam want something so badly that he overcomes his insecurities. Overall, Black Wolf was a great read. This was my first experience with author Jade Buchanan, but it won't be my last.
