Gideon is a four hundred year old vampire. Jesse, his human lover, and Emma who loves them both have finally talked him into taking his first vacation in years. A seemingly chance encounter with Marcus Brooker who knows Gideon's history draws Jesse like a moth to a flame into a situation he can't control. Marcus intends to make Gideon pay for what he perceives is a forty year old crime against a woman both Marcus and Gideon loved.

The writing duo known as Jamie Craig has continued the series of The Master Chronicles with another excellent suspense story. They give us some BDSM scenes not for the squeamish but Jesse‘s, Gideon’s and Emma’s love always shine through their scenarios, no matter how intense. The new villain the authors have given us, Marcus Brooker, is a human-bear-demon shifter who grows stronger by inflicting pain. He seems like inflicting pain is just for fun and it’s easy to hope Gideon or someone will give him back a large measure of what he dishes out.

We are given a more complete picture in this book of what happened to Mary, the woman whose death changed Gideon from a self-serving, vicious vampire to one who cares for humanity. Jesse’s and Gideon’s first encounter is also given in more detail than I remember from others in the series. We also get other choice details like how Jesse adds an aphrodisiac to the cream he uses for healing any injuries during BDSM activities. Throughout Jesse and Gideon both try to talk Emma into living with them for protection and for more intimacy.

I’ve enjoyed all of these tales immensely. There’s humor, eroticism, romance and suspense blended to make the storyline flow in a way only the best authors can. It makes me really happy to know there are more installments of the series coming.
