Sabrina Morgan is an expert bomb technician. She’s so good in fact that she’s always managed to defuse the bombs. That is, until the day a bomb explodes, hurting her reputation, but fortunately, hurling her into the arms of fireman James “Jake” Donovan. Sabrina is known around town as a ball-breaker, as always turning down the men who ask her for dates. But on this day, she’s feeling vulnerable, scared, and very attracted to Jake.

Unfortunately, now that she’s jumped from the hot pan into the fire, Sabrina is in even more danger. More bombs start appearing, bombs she thinks she defused but which are only hiding other bombs. It appears someone is out to get Sabrina and she can’t figure out why. After all, she’s an orphan. It was a bomb that killed her parents in fact.

Jake and Sabrina are tentatively falling in love. Jake adores Sabrina and longs to make a permanent commitment to her, but Sabrina has secrets she is hiding from him. As the danger escalates, so does the passion between them. But is their love safe from a mad bomber?

This is at heart a very enjoyable romance. The chemistry between Jake and Sabrina is strong, filled with depth, and definitely pulsates off the pages. The mystery surrounding the mad bomber is intriguing and keeps the plot on track. Unfortunately, Sabrina is my main problem in this story. Other characters continually refer to her as a hard, cynical, “ball-breaker” of a woman. None of her actions live up to that reputation however. Ms. Santiago continually tells readers how hard Sabrina is instead of showing readers. It created an uncomfortable dichotomy for me while reading because I wasn’t sure if the impression I was getting of Sabrina was true or false. She seemed to let Jake into her heart and world very quickly without any of the cynicism she supposedly always shows towards men, so that left me feeling even more confused and took this story from a great read to just a good, or pleasant read. However, don’t let this caveat put you off. The Blonde Bomb Tech is a turbulent and enjoyable read overall. I’m continually impressed with Lara Santiago and will seek out her future stories.
