| Jade Xiang does not trust anyone. She has been through much in her life but when she needs help in protecting the universe from destruction, she turns to Niccolo Romano for help but first she has to get the vampire executioner out of prison. She finds him mysterious but underneath that rough exterior there is a softer side that wishes to jump out when she stares into his haunting eyes. She would love to get to know him better but her troubling past just won’t release memories that burn within her soul. When Niccolo hears he is needed to be an assassin again, he would rather stay inside Harcourt Prison, not desiring to kill. Then he learns that he is needed to fight the Dominion and his thoughts quickly turn especially when he meets Jade. He can tell she needs comforting and he would like to be the one to cure her. He will do the mission but the contract must include his freedom and Jade. They both have a deep hurt that needs to be healed but until the mission is completed neither knows if they can have a lasting relationship.
Blood of the Damned is a wonderful read. Jade and Niccolo are refreshing characters that share a past suffering that needs much attentive healing. I love the way they come across the pages with tender loving devotion for each other. The way they reach out to each other is very beautifully done as their love spans through the pages. There is no doubt that once they get together they feel a strong emotion for the other. Ms. Bast incorporates fast-paced burning romance that blazes. She blends in some well-rounded secondary characters that adds dimension to the storyline. This story carries credibility that makes the characters and the storyline seem so real. This reader found this story to be one intensifying read and loved Jade and Niccolo.
