Homicide Detective Nick Marconi lost his partner two weeks ago. Daniel was Nick’s best friend and Nick valiantly tried to save him, but he died in Nick’s arms in less than a minute. Nick’s baby sister was murdered while they were still children. His parents have passed on and his best friend and younger sister, Jasmine, was murdered five years ago. Nick is beginning to suspect he put the wrong man in prison for the crime. There is a serial killer on the loose in New Orleans, murdering women in the same fashion Jasmine was. The new victims are all women Nick has dated, even his eighth grade prom date, and they all have a special little gift for Nick from the killer. Now, the department is ordering Nick to go to counseling or turn in his badge. He had no idea the counselor would be the most beautiful, intelligent and sexy woman he’s ever seen.

I am so glad I read this book; it’s one of the best I’ve come across in a very long time. The plot development and the characters’ development are superb. There isn’t a slow or relaxed moment in the whole story. If it isn’t plot tension it is sexual tension that keeps each scene wound tightly. Nick is such a sympathetic, yet heroic and sexy character that it is nearly impossible not to relate to him. No one has ever deserved to be saved by love more. Gracie is afraid of love, but equally deserving; I identified with her right away. I was rooting for them to get together from the start. The crimes scenes could be considered a little graphic in their descriptions, but tastefully written. They are detailed enough to get the pertinent points across without too much gore. The romance develops at an appropriate and believable pace and then the passion explodes across the pages. This one is a must read.
