Anything that happens in a small town is public. Anyone who has trouble must deal with it in an open forum. That was life in Wayback, Texas. When Gina Ballew’s fiancé, Cole Thomas, decided to cheat on her with Tiffany Boggs from a nearby town, the whole town knew that she caught them together. Gina had decided she wanted nothing to do with men and, while the townsfolk were sympathetic, they were actually intimidated by this strong-willed woman.

The Blue Bug Saloon was the “happening” place in Wayback—this was true whether or not the annual rodeo was in town. However, during rodeo week, the crowd increased considerably. While Gina and her friends, Pattie-Pie Murphy and Lyssa Callahan, were at the bar, all men seemed attracted to Gina. She was usually not interested—until she saw Nash Logan, a rodeo rider who was only passing through. Neither was interested in one-night stands, but both were intrigued with the other. Sparks flew and they danced.

To magnify the incredible evening, Cole chose that night to publicly propose to Tiffany. Of course Gina was devastated, but Nash took her home. What a story this became at this point. Gina and Nash were both remarkably good looking and had strong personalities. They were not, however, tawdry or morally lax. These two characters were so well developed and so perfectly made for each other that it would be impossible to not want good things to happen for them.

Ms. Rita Thedford also created some amazingly supportive characters in the form of friends and family to both Gina and Nash. The “mothers” had much insight into the needs of her child and their relationships were solidly built so that the children were eager to discuss their lives. Their friends were cultivated to be the epitome of encouragement.

This fast-paced story was different and compelling. The plot, while fresh and new, intertwined the couple’s needs, wants and goals. This is a great book to get lost in and hope for a ‘happily-ever-after.’ I highly recommend this book for all genres, especially those who love cowboys.
