Docia Kent owned a bookstore in Konigsburg, Texas. She moved to this small town after finding out her ex-fiancé was with her because of her parents’ money. She was so livid she promised to never allow another man to own a piece of her heart. She also liked her small-town life because it was away from her well-meaning, but overbearing parents. No one knew she was from a moneyed family. Her bookstore, Kent’s Hill Country Books, made enough to pay her bills. That was enough for now. She was accepted by most of the townsfolk, but there was one woman who despised her because of the attraction of her personality.

Dr. Cal Toleffson was the new veterinarian in town. He had bought into an existing practice. He was the new doc in town—known as Dr. Gorgeous—and couldn’t understand why so many pets were hypochondriacs and their owners were all women. He soon realized that his friends were laughing at him. Then he met Docia and fell in love. After they became involved, problems started occurring. First, her cat was shot in the face. Then her bookstore was broken into. Cal was determined nobody would hurt her. That was a big task to undertake.

Ms. Meg Benjamin has written a great first book in her Konigsburg series. I was impressed with her writing style and the way she portrayed her characters. The main couple was blessed with instant attraction. Their personalities were so believable. I loved these two in spite of their differences. The plot was electric and totally mesmerizing. I couldn’t put the book down. Their relationship alternated between conflict and great sexuality. Both kept the fast-paced book flowing.

The small-town mentality of some of the locals was so realistic. I moved into a small town as a teen—I totally understand her concept. The supporting cast was also superb. I cannot wait to read sequel(s) to this book. I highly recommend this book as well as this author. I’m sure readers will, likewise, be impressed with her and her book.
